Following high drama over the CEO position, OpenAI — in a surprise move — has delayed the launch of a custom GPT store until early 2024.
The development was reported by Reuters after the publication saw an internal memo.
OpenAI introduced the custom GPTs and store, which were set to be launched later that month, during its first developer conference in November.
The memo said that the company continues to "make improvements" to GPTs based on customer feedback.
It should be noted that the delay comes against the backdrop of the startup's surprise ouster of its CEO Sam Altman and his subsequent reinstatement following threats by employees to quit.
The GPTs are early versions of AI assistants that perform real-world tasks such as booking flights on behalf of a user. It is also expected to allow users to share their GPTs and earn money based on the number of users.
GPT store
Earlier Open AI said that it would launch the GPT Store, featuring creations by verified builders. Once in the store, GPTs become searchable and may climb the leaderboards. "We will also spotlight the most useful and delightful GPTs we come across in categories like productivity, education, and “just for fun”.
