Following devastating outages affecting thousands of users in the US, Elon Musk's X and Reddit services have reportedly been restored in the country.

Both the social media giants went dark after an unidentified disruption struck them late on Thursday, Reuters reported, citing outage tracking website Downdetector.

When the X outage was at its zenith, approximately 18,000 users went through accessibility issues, which kicked off at around 3:03pm (ET), impeding the functionality of the Elon Musk-owned social media platform.

Reddit, on its service status page, acknowledged that its performance was hampered by a blackout, compromising its website functionality at 3:16pm (ET).

According to the reports lodged on the outage tracking site, over 33,000 users suffered from performance lags or complete inaccessibility at the peak of the outage.

Regarding the root cause of the outage, a Reddit spokesperson claimed that it was triggered by a bug in a recent update, which he added was fixed by then.

Figures quoted above can differ from the actual number of users impacted by the outage, considering they're based on user-submitted reports.
