With the petrol price in Pakistan approaching another revision tomorrow, citizens are likely to be braced with another round of relief as updated petrol and diesel prices will reportedly see another cut on Friday, May 16 2025.
The purported decline of the new petrol price in Pakistan comes in contrast to the upward trend in global oil markets, which has been intact for over past two weeks.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, Pakistan Observer noted that fuel prices in Pakistan may register a loss of Rs3 to Rs3.50 per litre for the next fortnight.
New petrol price in Pakistan from May 16 (expected)
POLs | Current price | Expected price |
Petrol | 252.63 | 249-250 |
Diesel | 256.64 | 250± |
The revision will be finalised after approval from the finance ministry, following which the new petrol in Pakistan is expected to be settled between Rs249 and Rs250 per litre. The current rate of petrol in the country is 252.63 per litre.
In spite of the fuel cost in the international markets persistently rising, the anticipated descent in petroleum products nationwide will alleviate the tax burden which the general public is struggling with.
It was also reported that US crude futures recently surged 1.2%, reaching $62.62 per barrel, while Brent crude rose by 1.1% to settle at $64.86.
It's worth noting that Pakistan’s expected upcoming fuel price adjustment follows a slight reduction made during the last fortnight on 30 April, when petrol and diesel rates were cut by around Rs2 per litre, with their price settling at Rs252.63 and Rs256.64, respectively.
