If you were hoping for a brand-new F-Zero or Wipeout on the Nintendo Switch 2, then a great substitute is already here, and it's only $14.99.

Fast Fusion is a frantic, futuristic hovercraft racing game created by Shin'en and feels like a spiritual successor to the F-Zero lineage.

In Fast Fusion you race high-speed sci-fi vehicles on crazy twisting and turning tracks that feel like roller coasters.

Players build their boost meter while driving over boost zones and collecting coins, and players can also boost into their opponents to knock them out and earn more coins.

Fast Fusion is stunning visually; it is easily one of the best-looking games on the Switch 2 so far. Racing across desert dunes while breaching whale-like creatures fly past you; dodging meteors on space tracks — all the courses feel individual and unique.

There is no online multiplayer, but you can race with friends in local split-screen. Race against very tough rubber-banding every time you try to learn tracks, but I think learning the tracks and improving your boost throttle allows players to keep it competitive.

One standout mode is “Super Hero Mode”, where your boost meter also acts as your shield. You need to finish first without crashing, making every decision a balance of risk and reward.

The game’s weakest point is its vehicles; they look generic, and even with upgrades or fusing mechanics, performance differences aren’t always noticeable.
