The auto sector of Pakistan is going to witness a major development, as Ghandhara Industries Limited has signed a strategic partnership with China's Zhongtong Bus Holding Co. Limited.

The two companies have united with the intent to introduce and distribute luxury buses across Pakistan. The company announced the milestone to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) through a notice on Friday.

As per the deal, Ghandhara will expand its manufacturing operations to include a dedicated assembly line for Zhongtong buses.

To date focused on Isuzu automobiles, the company’s new line will operate alongside its existing bus body fabrication facility, enabling local assembly and production of luxury buses in Pakistan.

According to Ghandhara, CBU luxury buses will hit the market in the first quarter of 2026, while local assembly is set to start by mid-2026. The company said the timeline is subject to regulatory approvals and completion of the expansion at its plant site.

Zhongtong was incorporated in 1958 and is one of China's major commercial vehicle manufacturers, known for making fuel-efficient vehicles.

The partnership comes at a time when competition is rising in the automotive sector of Pakistan.

While Suzuki, Honda, and Toyota from Japan have traditionally been the leaders, newer entrants such as Hyundai, Kia, and Sazgar Engineering Works are changing the dynamics of the marketplace.

Additionally, NexGen Auto recently began producing electric vehicles, highlighting rapid growth and diversification in the industry.
