The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Monday announced that citizens can easily cancel the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) of a deceased family member from any city in Pakistan.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the authority stated: "A family member has died in any city in the country. The CNIC can be cancelled at any NADRA office across Pakistan, or you can use the Pak-ID mobile app and cancel the deceased's ID card from the comfort of your home."
"Remember that before cancelling CNIC, you must first get a death certificate from the local Union Council (UC). There's no fee to cancel the deceased's CNIC," added Nadra.
Last week, the Sindh government, in partnership with Nadra, launched the Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) mobile app for municipal services aimed at providing convenience to citizens.
"Residents will now be able to complete civil registration services from home without standing in long queues, facing delays, paperwork, or unnecessary visits," said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, adding that CRMS mobile app will enable timely and easy registration of birth, death, marriage, and divorce, as the launch of the app is an important milestone in the journey of modernising civic services.
