To honour the 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has introduced a commemorative coin of Rs55.

This initiative celebrates Guru Nanak's enduring spiritual legacy and acknowledges Pakistan's rich religious heritage.

The coin becomes available starting November 22, 2024, and may be collected at SBP Banking Services Corporation counters.

Design and features of Rs55 commemorative coin

This coin is made from nickel brass with 79% copper, 20% zinc, and 1% nickel. It weighs 13.5 grams and has a diameter of 30 mm, hence the coin becomes a vital collectable for both numismatists and admirers of the preachings of Guru Nanak.

The obverse side of the coin engravings has "Islami Jamhuria Pakistan" in Urdu surrounding it. Below the crescent, there is written "2024" along with "55", and the word "Rupia" in Urdu on both sides.

The other side depicts the memorial of Guru Nanak Dev Ji as a tribute to his spiritual achievements. The phrase "555th Birthday Celebrations" is inscribed above while "Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji" and "1469-2024" place his year of birth and the anniversary.

Baba Guru Nanak is respected for his messages about peace, equality, and love. It is a proud moment for Pakistan as few holy sites exist for Sikhs, such as Kartarpur Sahib, that will be commemorated with this particular coin.
