The Sindh government has extended the deadline for Ajrak design number plates until December 31, 2025, allowing vehicle owners more time to replace their old plates. The decision was confirmed through a new notification issued by the Excise and Taxation Department, revising the earlier deadline of October 31.

The Ajrak license plates, drawing inspiration from Sindh’s traditional block-print pattern, represent the melding of cultural pride and contemporary security technology.

The government rolled out this design in the first place to showcase Sindh’s heritage while improving the security of vehicle registration across the province.

According to Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, the plates may only be acquired from designated Excise offices. Chawla commented: “Plates sold in markets or by agents are invalid.”

Moreover to this decision, according to the minister, the new plates consist of 3D holograms, barcodes, and security threads to prevent duplication and improve identification.

Officials from the Excise and Taxation Department stated that an extension in time was provided to support vehicle owners while they move to the new plates.

The Excise and Taxation Department expects to provide more public outreach campaigns to inform citizens about the benefits of the new design and official methods of obtaining it.

The Sindh Government initiative of the Ajrak number plates fuses tradition and technology to promote cultural identity and improve security protocols and safety standards in Pakistan's transport system.
