Expanding their footprint in untapped regions, Uber and Waymo are gearing up to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Atlanta.

As part of the launch, expected in the summer of 2025, Uber is inviting customers in Atlanta to join the early access list to avail of Waymo’s autonomous ride-hailing service using the Uber app.

The expansion is the outcome of a partnership between the two companies, which began in September 2023 and also led to the first launch in Austin in March 2025, TechCrunch reported.

The initiative allows Uber users to grab Waymo’s driverless Jaguar I-PACE vehicles, covering a 65-square-mile area of Atlanta, including Downtown, Buckhead, and Capitol View, with expansion to other areas being on the cards.

The collaboration equally divides the responsibilities between the two parties, wherein Uber will look after vehicle maintenance, charging, cleaning, and app access, while Waymo will oversee the autonomous technology and rider support.

Users joining the early access list will receive updates, priority access, and potentially early rides before the full-fledged public launch.

To sign up for the Uber-Waymo service, users are required to update their Uber app, go to “Account” > “Settings” > “Ride Preferences,” and opt for the autonomous vehicle list.
