State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Wednesday that all commercial banks will remain closed on the first day of Ramadan 2025.

In the notification, the SBP announced a “Bank Holiday” on the first working day of Ramadan, 1446 AH, to facilitate the deduction of Zakat.

The central bank said that during this day, all banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) will remain closed for public dealings.

State Bank is expected to issue a formal notification regarding this holiday in the next few days.

Notably, bank employees will report to work as usual and carry out official duties, except for transactions involving public dealings.

This holiday is in line with the annual practice of Zakat deduction, which takes place at the start of Ramadan.
