Apple is reportedly exploring search ads in Apple Maps, which could allow businesses to pay for better visibility in search results. According to some rumours, Apple is considering ways to monetise its Maps app, similar to how it already places ads in its News and Stocks apps.

This is not the first time Apple has looked into this idea. A few years ago, the company explored a system where businesses could pay to rank higher in search results on Maps, similar to Google Maps. This would allow restaurants, stores, or venues to appear more prominently when users search for specific services or locations.

Apple’s growing interest in Ads

In a recent internal meeting, Apple reportedly revived discussions about bringing search ads to Maps. While no engineering work has started, the idea is being actively considered.

According to Bloomberg, Apple could highlight certain locations on the map in exchange for payments from businesses.

Apple has been expanding its advertising business, and Maps could become another revenue stream. The company has already introduced ads in the App Store, News, and Stocks apps, helping businesses promote their services. Adding search ads to Apple Maps could further grow this strategy.

Apple Maps ads availability

There is no confirmed timeline for when or if Apple Maps search ads will launch. However, given Apple’s increasing focus on advertising revenue, it could be a matter of time before this feature rolls out.
