The federal government on Tuesday announced Zakat Nisab for Ramadan 2026, setting it at Rs503,529, deducted from savings accounts only if the balance meets or exceeds the required amount.
The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, in a notification, noted: "In terms of the provisions of the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, 1980, no deduction of Zakat at source shall be effected where the amount standing to the credit of an account, in respect of the assets mentioned in Column 2 of Serial No. 1 of the First Schedule of the said Ordinance is less than Rs503,529."
Moreover, the ministry said that the first day of Ramadan has been notified as the "Deduction Date", which will likely fall on February 19 or February 20, subject to the moon sighting, for the deduction of Zakat from savings bank accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts, and other similar accounts having the said credit balance or above.
It directed the all Zakat Collecting and Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) to ensure strict compliance with the above instructions and deduct Zakat accordingly.
"The deducted amount shall be deposited immediately in the Central Zakat Account No ZZ-08 maintained with the State Bank of Pakistan," reads the notification.
As per Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), the new moon will be born on February 17 at 5:01pm (PST), with astronomical parameters indicating favourable visibility conditions the following evening.
