Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Tuesday announced that Islamabad International Airport has fully transitioned to a cashless system, allowing digital payments at all counters.
PAA, in a statement, said that passengers can now easily pay all applicable fees and charges through a mobile application, as the authority aims to significantly reduce waiting times in queues and simplify the overall payment process at the airport.
The airport authority said the digital system will bring transparency and help ensure that travel procedures are completed in a more organised and efficient manner.
Authorities further noted that the introduction of the digital payment system will enhance the effectiveness of airport services and support the development of facilities aligned with international standards through the use of modern technology.
Last week, Deputy Director of Immigration Shehzad Akbar announced all 20 immigration departure counters have been activated at Jinnah International Airport to facilitate smoother passenger movement.
Akbar, in a statement, added that full staffing at the counters during peak hours has reduced average immigration clearance time to nearly one minute per passenger.
Moreover, Authorities has also launched a pre-departure clearance counter that will allow travellers to complete immigration procedures days before their flight to avoid last-minute delays.
