The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Monday warned citizens to store water in advance, as the metropolitan city has faced a temporary disruption due to the maintenance work on the Hub Canal.
According to KWSC officials, the Karachi water supply to three major districts, West, Keamari, and Central, is suspended for two days — October 28 to 29 — after the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) announced a 48-hour shutdown of the Hub Canal.
It should be noted that the temporary closure aims to facilitate a detailed inspection and repair operation from the Hub Dam to the X-Regulator.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, maintenance work is underway on the 11K line connected to the North East Pumping Station, where leakage occurred in a 48-inch main pipeline.
Due to this, the worst-hit localities include Scheme 33, Safora, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Federal B. Area, where residents have been without water.
According to officials, the water supply shutdown is part of routine infrastructure maintenance intended to improve long-term efficiency in the Karachi water supply system.
Officials said that repair work would be completed within ten hours, after which the Karachi water supply will resume to normal levels.
