The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) announces an updated version of Pakistan's national ID card, a low-cost, user-friendly smart card.
The new smart card will allow more citizens to easily demonstrate their identity while also introducing additional digital features but removing the chip in order to reduce costs.

The new national identity card now shows bilingual details—both English and Urdu—to maintain consistency with other official documents such as passports.
Perhaps the most significant new feature is a QR code, which allows individuals to verify their identity digitally through the Pak ID mobile app.
This will simplify authentication in offices, banks, and other institutions where ID proof is required.
NADRA has also introduced special privileges for some segments of citizens. Individuals who register to become organ donors will receive a special symbol on their ID card.
Moreover, their cards will also be valid for a lifetime. The same applies to people with disabilities, who will get a special identification card with no expiry date.
Additionally, residents who need to renew, revise, or replace a lost ID can now opt for this non-chip card.
Though it lacks the chip, it also contains essential security features. It costs significantly less than the former chip version.

The cost for regular processing is Rs400 (takes 31 days), urgent is Rs1,150 (15 days), and executive is Rs2,150 (9 days). If one is becoming 18 years old and applying for the first time, they will receive the card for free under the regular category.
