The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is set to launch facial recognition technology to assist senior citizens with identity verification when their fingerprints can’t be scanned or are unreliable due to age.

NADRA spokesperson Shabbahat Ali discussed that the feature will enable elderly citizens to complete their biometric verification process in a more efficient way. This feature will be a huge sigh of relief for senior citizens whose thumbprints are very difficult to scan.

Ali also said it is vital for children to be registered timely, stating that if a child is not registered at birth, it is a deprivation of their rights. He also explained that for registered children under 18 years old, NADRA issues a "Juvenile Card" that remains valid until they are 18.

Moreover, he shared that for applicants to register their child's ID card, one parent must possess a CNIC even if the other parent is absent.

In discussing services in the city of Karachi, Ali stated that there are 359 counters and that NADRA intends to reduce waiting time by making more counters available in this city.

Additionally, he explained that for divorce, applicants must furnish a Union Council (UC) divorce certificate before NADRA can update their marital status.
