
In a significant development, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) has declared that passport application processing has been accelerated to a zero backlog status both in Pakistan and globally.
The announcement took place during the visit of Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain, to the Passport Headquarters, where he toured different sections and evaluated the process of passport production.
The Director General of Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, updated the High Commissioner on the department’s modernised facilities and processes, which increased lamination, enhanced security standards, and increased online services for overseas Pakistanis.
Qazi reaffirmed the department has completed its global passport backlog, a true achievement, which will now positively impact the processing times for applicants.
During his visit, the Bangladeshi High Commissioner praised Pakistan’s technological enhancements and administrative reform, especially for initiatives to assist overseas citizens. He furthermore was particularly interested in the usage of artificial intelligence in Pakistan’s passport production system.
