While the country is fast approaching the enaction of the Digital Nation bill, a report from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has brought to light the poor performance of telecom operators.
Key performance indicators (KPIs) taken into consideration for the survey include network coverage, broadband, voice and SMS services from major cellular mobile operators (CMOs).
Besides highlighting the performance of mobile operators in the country, the survey-based report from the telecom regulator also ranked CMOs based on compliance with the aforementioned KPIs.
According to The Express Tribune, the survey entailed performance assessment of all network providers in 17 cities across Pakistan during the fourth quarter of 2024.
The evaluation was conducted in line with the Cellular Mobile Network QoS Regulations 2021, taking into account nearly 46,000 voice calls and SMS tests, along with 330,000 broadband performance samples.
Ufone stood as the tallest when coverage was concerned, according to the PTA survey, with Zong, Jazz and Telenor securing the second, third and fourth positions, respectively.
All CMOs to meet or surpass the QoS benchmark, the cellular performance bar, described under the mobile network regulations required.
