Given the ever-increasing inflation and a subsequent uptick in the cost of living, the Punjab government has increased the minimum wage for workers to Rs40,000, marking a notable raise from last year's Rs37,000.

The minimum wage hike in Punjab was announced at the budget presentation for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the provincial assembly.

During the budget 2025-26 announcement, Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman also announced a 10% salary increase for provincial government employees across Grades 1 to 22.

Besides disclosing budget incentives for on-duty civil servants, the minister also proposed a 5% rise in pensions for retired employees in the Punjab province.

The Punjab chief minister has allocated Rs50 billion from the development budget to address electricity bill concerns, which had been a significant issue for the people of Punjab last year, Rehman highlighted.

It is believed that the budget aims to financially facilitate workers and address economic challenges.
