Reddit is set to roll out paywalls for some of its online communities in 2025. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman confirmed during a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session that the company is currently working on a feature to allow some subreddits to become "paid communities," providing exclusive content to members who pay for access.

Huffman stated: “We’re working on it as we speak.” He indicated that the feature will be launched in the coming year.

Moreover, Huffman tipped a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature set to debut this year, aimed at summarising search results and laying the groundwork for a Reddit marketplace.

The planned move comes as Reddit seems to diversify its revenue streams, following a global trend by platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Discord to incentivise content creation.

However, the company has not revealed the pricing structure and specific criteria for subreddits that qualify for paywalls. The paid communities are expected to provide a space for creators to monetise their content.

Huffman believes Reddit will continue to grow and thrive with the planned introduction of paid subreddits.

Reddit, which boasts over 100 million daily active users, continues to explore new ways to ensure its growth and long-term success.
