In a groundbreaking move in the immersive realm of virtual reality (VR) headsets, Samsung's much-hyped VR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, has been confirmed to launch on October 21.

The Galaxy maker's upcoming headset is expected to be named the Samsung Galaxy XR.

For those willing to take a look at the Galaxt XR headpiece, tipsters have disclosed its design and form factor, key specifications, and even screenshots of its software.

Project Moohan headset specs

The Galaxy XR will feature two impressive 4K micro-LED displays, boasting a remarkable 4,032 pixels per inch (ppi). Together, these displays provide 29 million pixels, surpassing both Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3, promising users stunning and immersive visuals.

Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, specifically designed for extended reality, the Galaxy XR will include various sensors and cameras to track hand movements, eye positions, and the surrounding environment.

The front of the headset has four sensors, with two additional ones at the bottom for accurate hand tracking. A proximity sensor helps users navigate safely by detecting nearby walls and furniture.

The headset features multiple microphones that can filter out background noise and enhance voices for clearer communication in virtual settings. Comfort is key, with soft internal cushions and an adjustable headband for a secure fit.

With a battery life of around two hours during regular use and 2.5 hours for video playback, the Galaxy XR weighs 545 grams, making it lighter than Apple’s offering but slightly heavier than Meta’s. Dedicated controllers with haptic feedback will enhance the gaming experience.

Leaked images indicated the headset will run on One UI XR, Samsung’s custom interface, in integration with its ecosystem.

Samsung's Project Moohan headset launch date, price

Considering the absence of an official confirmation about Project Moohan's launch date, reports indicated a starting price of around $1,800. If these have anything to go by, the Galaxy XR chances are great that the Galaxy XR will debut as a formidable competitor in the VR market, directly challenging Apple and Meta.
