Apple's iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max introduced the highly anticipated always-on display feature. Exclusive to the Pro models, Apple's implementation of the always-on display surpasses the monochromatic versions found in Android handsets by offering a full-colour presentation of the lock screen and wallpaper.
Shortly after the release of the iPhone 14 lineup, some users reported excessive power consumption related to the always-on display. While this issue was not widespread and seems to have diminished with subsequent iOS 16 updates, it is still worth considering if they're experiencing inadequate battery life.
Fortunately, Apple has made it straightforward to disable the always-on display, and subsequent iOS 16 updates have provided additional control over its behaviour. This means a user can customise when the display is active and what information it shows, enabling them to tailor the feature to their preferences without completely disabling it and compromising their iPhone 14 Pro experience.
How to turn off always-on display on iPhone 14 Pro
Follow these steps:
- Start by opening the Settings app on an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max.
- Navigate down and select "Display & Brightness."
- Tap "Always On Display" at the bottom of the page.
- To the off position, turn the switch next to "Always on Display."
Once done, the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max will revert to the traditional behaviour where the screen goes dark when locked, similar to other iPhone models.
