China has revealed the CR450, a high-speed train said to be the fastest in the world.
Revealed in Beijing on Sunday, December 29, 2024, the CR450 reached a record-breaking test speed of 450 kilometres per hour, surpassing its predecessor, the CR400.
However, with an expected operational speed of 400 kilometres per hour, this train marks a significant leap in rail technology and solidifies China’s position as a global leader in transportation innovation.
Advanced engineering by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles and CRRC Sifang makes the CR450 a new-generation train. It is equipped with several innovative features, such as super speed, better energy efficiency, reliable rides, and improved brake systems.
Notably, the train has undergone over 3,000 simulations and 2,000 tests at the platform before commercial use, thus ensuring the fulfilment of rigorous safety and performance requirements.
China's extensive rail network spans 160,000 kilometres, with 46,000 kilometres dedicated to high-speed lines. This rail network stretches across cities and rural areas.
The CR450 is expected to further enhance this system, making train travel faster, more reliable, and a popular alternative to air travel for journeys under 700 miles.
Though the CR450 has achieved remarkable speeds, additional tests and adjustments will be carried out to ensure it's fully ready for commercial operations.
Once operational, this train is expected to strengthen China's position as a global leader in railway technology.
