In a bid to increase transparency and reduce confusion, X (formerly Twitter) has begun rolling out new labels for parody or fan commentary accounts.
The new labels for parody accounts are designed to help X users differentiate between the content posted from genuine accounts and their satirical duplicates on the platform.
Earlier, several parody accounts on X used to include the word "parody" in their display names and bios. However, many users still mistakenly took such parody accounts as authentic.

The labels will be visible on both accounts and posts and are designed to promote clarity and prevent deception.
X’s safety account stated: "We're introducing profile labels for parody accounts to clearly distinguish these types of accounts and their content on our platform."
“We have designed these labels to increase transparency and to ensure that users are not deceived into thinking such accounts belong to the entity being parodied,” the statement added.
How to use parody labels on X?
To use the parody label, X users can navigate to Settings and Privacy > Your account > Account information and select the "Parody, commentary and fan account" option.
This label indicates that the account is depicting another person, group, or organisation for discussion, satire, or sharing information.
While the labels are currently optional, X have plans to make them mandatory for parody accounts shortly.
