Bad news for console gamers: Xbox console prices are bracing for another hike, expected soon, marking the third instance of Xbox prices rising in 2025, thanks to tariffs.

The upcoming uptick in Xbox prices is being attributed to an ongoing shortage and price surge in DRAM memory kits, which has affected the entire tech industry.

During the ongoing quarter of 2025, the cost of DRAM memory chips has soared because of high demand from AI companies like OpenAI.

This shift has compelled RAM makers to focus more on supplies for AI infrastructure, resulting in a staggering 200% increase in prices for DDR5 desktop memory kits.

Adding to the disappointment of consumers, those looking for DDR4 or DDR5 RAM kits are facing limited options and no immediate relief, as ongoing Black Friday promotions also failed to offer any notable relief on other PC components.

According to the YouTube channel Moore's Law Is Dead, Microsoft has not adequately prepared for these RAM shortages, leading to speculation that Xbox prices could rise again soon.

The current retail rate of Xbox Series S is around $379.99, while the Series X is priced at $599.99.

This hike has taken place after two previous sessions of price rise earlier this year, drawing criticism from gamers.

On the other hand, the PS5 is not expected to undergo a price hike soon, as Sony reportedly has sufficient DRAM to fulfil holiday demand, with discounts of up to $100 on standard PS5 systems during Black Friday sales.

As Xbox is offering big deals on games, the pricing of flagship Xbox consoles seems unclear, meaning time will tell how much more expensive Xbox is going to be in the near future.
