Alibaba.com is partnering with Ignite, the National Technology Fund and Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT) to support the growth of Pakistan’s digital economy and expand global opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Beijing at the 2nd Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference by Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Alibaba.com Head of South and Southeast Asia Roger Luo, alongside senior officials from both parties.
Highlighting the importance of this partnership, the IT minister said Pakistan is “standing at the cusp of global e-commerce opportunity,” adding that the collaboration will help local businesses showcase their products globally.
“By equipping our SMEs and startups with advanced e-commerce tools and aligning our institutions with international best practices, we aim to foster innovation, support export growth, and strengthen Pakistan’s participation in digital trade,” she noted.
Luo highlighted Alibaba.com’s commitment to Pakistan, saying that the partnership “opens new channels for Pakistani businesses” by facilitating access to AI-based tools, training and government support combined with access to global markets.
As part of the MoU, Alibaba.com will facilitate promotional activities, inclusive of Pakistan trade shows, a national online pavilion, B2B e-commerce training and the provision of AI tools for selected SMEs. Ignite will assist in each stage by identifying exporters, facilitating seminars in major cities, and promoting national approaches on Alibaba.com initiatives.
