The State Bank of Pakistan on Tuesday announced that January 1, 2026, will be a bank holiday in the whole country. This means that all banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will remain closed for public dealings.

The SBP clarifies that Public services will be closed, but bank staff, which refers to employees of banks, DFIs, and MFBs, will come to their respective offices.

The central bank makes it clear that it provides an opportunity to commercial banks to finalise year-end procedures and get ready to meet the upcoming financial year with a smooth transition.
