Pakistan likely to see petrol price surge from March 1

The federal government is expected to increase petroleum prices tonight, effective March 1 till March 15, 2026, amid increase in international fuel rates.

As per sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government is likely to rise petrol price by Rs4.58 per litre, high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4.73 per litre, and kerosene oil might become expensive by Rs6.88 per litre.

Moreover, Ministry of Finance will increase light diesel oil price by Rs5 per litre. Petrol is used by commuters in small vehicles, rickshaws and two-wheelers, as if the petrol prices are increase then it could affect the lower- and upper-middle class households, who rely on petrol for daily travel. 

However, don't worry, as Ministry of Finance will announce official rates after the consultation with Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the premier. 

In the last fortnight, the government increased the petrol price by Rs5 per litre and HSD by Rs7.32 per litre.

Following the increase, the price of petrol currently costs Rs258.17 and the diesel rate is at Rs275.7 per litre.
