The federal government on Thursday announced a increase in the petrol price by up to Rs6.51 per litre, making it to Rs399.86 per litre from Rs393.35 per litre, in line with the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

The price for high-speed diesel (HSD) was also hiked by Rs19.39 per litre, raising it to Rs399.58 from Rs380.19 per litre.

"The government has decided the following prices of petroleum products for the fortnight starting tomorrow, based on the recommendations of OGRA & the relevant ministries," according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division.

The new petrol price in Pakistan will take effect from May 1, 2026.

Last week, the government of Pakistan announced a Rs26.77 per litre hike in the price of petrol and HSD each. Following the increase, the price of HSD has jumped from Rs353.42 to Rs380.19, while the petrol price now stands at Rs393.35.

It is important to note that petrol is primarily used in private transportation, small vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers. Increasing prices will significantly impact the budgets of middle- and lower-middle-class households.

In addition, the hiked cost of high-speed diesel directly contributes to the increasing prices of vegetables and other essential food items.
