In its latest report on global smartphone OS trends, Counterpoint Research stated that Android remains the top OS globally, followed by iOS and HarmonyOS, which have secured the second and third positions, respectively.
HarmonyOS beats iOS in China
A surprising insight into the top smartphone OS revealed that the Huawei-developed HarmonyOS surpassed iOS in China by market share, grabbing second position following Android. The report from the technology market research firm anticipates that this trend will persist in 2025.
Android remains the top smartphone globally
Although the Android market remained almost flat throughout 2024, Android OS remained in the lead around the world. It's worth noting that Android registered a lowest-ever quarterly share in Q4 2024 in the United States and India.
Low-selling Android woes in the US, triggered by smaller Android brands, were compensated by considerable sales from Motorola and Google. iPhone sales in this region lost only 1%.
Best selling smartphones in India
As of India, there were record iPhone sales recorded during the fourth quarter last year, with almost two-thirds coming from older-generation iPhone models.
