In a shocking series of events, Apple AirTag served the purpose they were made for: locating something you lost, misplaced, or got stolen.
A Virginia-based carpenter, 43, had a pile of his tools stolen after some thieves broke into van twice and fled with his tools.
After getting annoyed and angered when the unfortunate incident happened for the second time he decided to put an Apple AirTag inside a large bunch of his tools, considering the possibility of another robbery attempt by the thieves as some tools were still spared from them.

Not only did hiding an Apple AirTag helped him track all of his tools down, but also got around 15,000 other tools that were shoplifted from local businesses, cars, homes, and fellow carpenters by a group of thieves.
"Saws, drills, sanders, grinders, generators, batteries, air compressors and other portable (meaning something easy to carry) construction equipment" were found in 12 different locations among the recovered tools, with most in Howard County and a few in Virginia.
The estimated worth of the tools is between $3 million and $5 million, The Washington Post reported while citing police. While police are investigating some suspects under detention, none of the real thieves has been arrested yet.
How long do AirTags last
Based on typical usage, including regular tracking and sound activation to locate them, Apple AirTags are designed to last approximately one year on a single CR2032 coin cell battery.
