Apple is set to introduce PlayStation VR2 controller support for the Vision Pro headset later this year. The update, expected as part of visionOS 3, aims to enhance the gaming experience on Apple’s mixed reality device.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple and Sony have been working on this project for months. Apple has also approached third-party game developers, encouraging them to integrate PlayStation VR2 controller support into their games for Vision Pro.
Apple Vision Pro to support PlayStation VR2 controllers
The PlayStation VR2 controllers offer precise motion tracking, allowing for more immersive gameplay. Currently, Vision Pro users rely on hand gestures or standard controllers, which may not provide the same level of precision.
Additionally, Apple has not yet positioned itself as a major player in the gaming industry, and the impact of this update on the device’s appeal to gamers remains to be seen.
Furthermore, since Sony does not sell the PlayStation VR2 controllers separately, Vision Pro users may need to purchase the full PlayStation VR2 system to access this feature.
