Despite tremendous advancement, cameras have not made it to earbuds or other audio gadgets meant to serve an audio-oriented purpose. Now it appears that Apple has plans to equip its AirPods with cameras.
Citing Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, 9to5Mac reported that Apple is "actively developing" a new version of AirPods featuring integrated cameras.
Although such a pair of AirPods equipped with such a remarkable technological fusion is less likely to debut in the form of AirPods Pro 3, scheduled to launch this year, the development has stirred a frenzy among AirPods enthusiasts.
The integration of cameras points to the presumption that the iPhone maker could be making AirPods capable of making sense of the user's environment and surroundings.
The Bloomberg correspondent also noted that the tech giant is willing to introduce Visual Intelligence in Airpods, just as it did with the latest iPhone 16 lineup through the Camera Control button.
"Apple is working on a new version of the AirPods Pro that uses external cameras and artificial intelligence to understand the outside world and provide information to the user. This would essentially be the smart glasses path — but without actual glasses," claimed Gurman.
Most likely, the addition of cameras to Airpods is expected to let users ask Siri about their surroundings without having to take out their iPhones. As per the prolific tech reporter, AirPods with cameras will not be released until at least 2027.
