The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Tuesday announced closure of the banks on Thursday, February 5, 2026, on the occasion of ‘Kashmir Day’, as declared by the Government of Pakistan.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the central bank stated: "All banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will also remain closed for public dealing on the aforementioned date."
What is Kashmir Day?
The world celebrates Kashmir Day, every year on February 5 to express support for the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir in their freedom struggle. It highlights the region's human rights situation, honors martyrs, and reaffirms Pakistan's moral, political, and diplomatic backing for the right to self-determination.
It is important to remember that the Kashmir Day has been observed since 1990 as a national holiday to demonstrate that Pakistan stands with Kashmiris in their fight for independence against India.
