In a significant development for Pakistan's ride-hailing industry, Careem has announced to suspend its ride-hailing operations in the country starting July 18, 2025.
The ride-hailing service's exit from Pakistan was conveyed through an in-app notification, marking an end to years of taxi services that transformed urban transportation in major cities across Pakistan.
"The challenging macroeconomic reality, intensifying competition, and global capital allocation made it hard to justify the investment levels required to deliver a safe and dependable service in the country," wrote Careem CEO and co-founder Mudassir Sheikha in a LinkedIn post while reflecting on the reason behind Careem's departure from the country.
It's worth noting that Careem has been a leading player in Pakistan's transport sector and expressed heartfelt gratitude to its loyal users in the announcement.
“You’ve been at the heart of our journey,” read an official notification issued by Careem. The company also reflected on the countless rides that helped Pakistanis with their daily commutes.
Careem Care support will remain operational until September 18, 2025, the company confirmed while announcing the end of its ride-hailing services next month.
This extended support will remain functional to address any outstanding issues, including the retrieval of balances in Careem Wallets. It will also ensure that users with remaining funds receive instructions regarding the retrieval of funds.
