In a progressive turn of events, Sukkur Airport is going to commence international flights soon, as Pakistan Aviation Authority’s P&D Department Director Abbas Sheikh visited the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday and discussed plans for the airport's expansion.
Muhammad Mohsin Farooq, the convener of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s committee, announced that Sukkur Airport has been approved to conduct two weekly flights from Sukkur to Jeddah starting July this year.
The development is reported to have resulted from the efforts of Bilal Waqar Khan, the former president of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce.
Sukkur Airport's expansion plan includes the development of cargo terminals and runways to ease the hassle of cargo flights.
Sheikh, alongside other members of the department, also sought estimates of products exported from Sukkur and areas in its close vicinity to devise an all-encompassing development plan for both passenger and cargo flights.
Engineer Abdul Fatah Sheikh, former president of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce, shed light on the variety of products exported from Sukkur, including dates, cotton, rice, pickles, fruits, vegetables, fish, and handicrafts. This wide range of goods is exported from Karachi, Multan, and Faisalabad.
Following the development plan's execution, this export will be directly carried through Sukkur.
