In what seems to be a major relief for the inflation-ridden electricity consumers in Karachi, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs for Karachi residents.

Under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for February 2025, the power regulator has approved a cut of Rs3.64 per unit for K-Electric consumers.

Whereas for the power consumers countrywide, a drop of Rs1.55 per unit has been granted under the third quarterly adjustment of the ongoing fiscal year. Unfortunately, lifeline and protected consumers have been excluded from the new adjustment.

The revised electricity rates across Pakistan will be observed in electricity bills issued between May and July 2025

The slight cut in electricity tariffs will amount to a total of Rs52.6 billion relief to the overall consumer base, as per estimates provided by the NEPRA.

These adjustments are part of Pakistan's strategies aimed at assisting citizens in stabilising energy costs and improving its affordability for the public in view of the rising cost of living, read a statement issued by the authority.

The updated prices are likely to lower monthly electricity bills for eligible consumers.
