Indicating authorities' disregard for ensuring quality in equipment and devices for state-owned educational institutions, multiple schools and colleges in Islamabad reportedly received faulty Chromebooks.
The Chromebooks were supplied as part of the Punjab government's recently touted digital learning initiative. The institutes highlighted that the given Chromebooks were non-functional upon arrival.
It's worth noting that these Chromebooks were delivered by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training through the National Book Foundation. The authority is reported to have bought refurbished devices owing to budget constraints.
Citing an official from the ministry concerned, ProPakistani reported that the issue was acknowledged by the ministry, however, it undermined the magnitude of the fault.
The education ministry official blamed the chargers of the faulty Chromebooks, stressing that the devices were free from any malfunction. He further explained that the supposedly faulty chargers were replaced to address the issue.
“It was not a big problem,” the official stated. “There was an issue with some of the chargers. We have replaced them, and the matter has almost been resolved.”
As per the remarks of the ministry spokesperson, the schools and colleges concerned have been directed to collect replacement chargers from vendors approved by the ministry.
