Google is working on a new feature that could allow users to upload and analyse video files in its AI-powered chatbot, Gemini. Currently, Gemini can summarise web pages, images, PDFs, and YouTube videos via links, but it does not support direct video uploads.

However, hints in a recent Google app beta suggest that may change soon.

Video uploads could expand Gemini's capabilities

In the latest beta version of the Google app (16.9.39.sa.arm64), hidden strings in the code indicate that users might soon be able to attach video files in Gemini’s chat. This means users may see options to upload videos, view their duration, and even play them within the chat.

While video uploads are not available in the current Gemini interface, early testing shows that videos can be attached to the chat, though Gemini is not yet able to analyse them.

Interestingly, this feature might allow users to upload recorded lectures for summaries, analyse security footage for key moments, or upload screen recordings to get help with technical issues.

As of now, there are no details on restrictions such as video file size or duration limits. It’s also unclear whether this feature will be available to all users or only Gemini Advanced subscribers. However, with Google frequently expanding Gemini’s features, a rollout may not be far away.
