As the holiday season is nearby, it's a great time for you to think about upgrading your home security with a video doorbell. With the Google Nest Doorbell, you can keep an eye on your package deliveries if you're ordering gifts online or receiving them in the mail, and keep tabs on your home while you're away.

The Nest Doorbell — available around $180 on Amazon — is best at identifying specific triggers. It easily differentiates between people, animals, packages, and vehicles, cutting down on false alarms. With a paid subscription, it also features familiar-face announcements.

Featuring a 1,280x960-pixel resolution with HDR and clear night vision, the second-gen Nest Doorbell's video quality is as good as any. The company has made colours are bright and vibrant when it's light out, and shapes and movement are discernible at night, even without any lights on.

Pros

  1. High-quality audio and video
  2. Lots of customizable settings
  3. Free cloud storage up to three hours
  4. Compatible with Google Assistant and Alexa
  5. Excellent object recognition
  6. Both battery and wired models work well

Cons

  1. Recorded events automatically delete after 3 hours
  2. Somewhat limited field of view
  3. No local storage

For the installation, Google provides everything you’ll need to install the doorbell, including a base plate, spacers for installing the doorbell on an uneven surface, a wedge that will shift the doorbell’s view 20 degrees left or right, and a hex key and small set screw for securing the doorbell to its mount.

However, there's one issue that Google Nest Doorbell doesn't come with battery. If you don’t have an existing doorbell, you’ll need to install a transformer and pull wire through your walls to the location you want to mount the doorbell.
