According to a report from the Nikkei newspaper on Thursday, Alphabet's Google has instructed its suppliers to commence manufacturing its Pixel smartphones in India by the earliest next quarter, as part of its ambitious goal to ship over 10 million Pixel phones this year.

Google announced last October its intention to initiate smartphone production in India, with the flagship Pixel 8 anticipated for release in 2024, underscoring its strategic focus on a pivotal growth market.

This shift in manufacturing location is also aimed at enabling Google to diversify its supply chain away from China, as per the Nikkei report, which cited a source familiar with the matter.

The report further indicates that the tech giant will gear up production lines for its premium Pixel 8 Pro smartphones in the upcoming weeks, with manufacturing slated to commence in the April-June quarter, as per multiple sources.

Details regarding the exact volume of phones Google plans to produce in India or whether they will be intended for domestic sales or exports were not disclosed in the report.
