Government to release additional Rs6bn for free solar panel scheme

As part of the solar energy initiative recently taken by the Punjab government, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz announced the allocation of more funds to ensure the provision of free solar panels to more households. 

In this regard, the Punjab government will roll out an additional Rs6 billion. It's worth mentioning that the establishment of funds for power production from waste will reportedly be completed by March. 

Besides widening the scope of free solar energy projects for households consuming 200 or less units of electricity, she also announced the transition of all government buildings, including the Punjab Assembly and the Institute of Cardiology, to solar energy and renewable energy solutions by June, as reported by The Express Tribune

While being briefed about the progress across sectors, the Punjab chief minister also announced initiatives to improve the efficiency of agriculture, solar energy, and industrial sectors in Punjab. 

Eyeing to enhance agricultural development in the region under her supervision, Maryam also directed the release of additional funds to expedite the distribution of tractors and other equipment used in agriculture. 

It also emerged that by the end of February 2025, farmers will be facilitated with 2,000 more superseders at discounted rates. This allocation is apart from the 10,000 tractors the Punjab government has already granted.
