The Board of Directors of K-Electric reappointed Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of K-Electric, with effect from July 30, 2025.

K-Electric (KE) is Pakistan's only vertically integrated power utility that provides electricity for the city of Karachi and the surrounding areas. The reappointment comes as KE takes a keen interest in improvement in service delivery through digitisation, customer-focused reforms, and significant investment into the delivery of the energy value chain.

Syed Moonis Alvi joined K-Electric in 2008, ultimately serving in several senior positions, including Chief Financial Officer (CFO), company secretary, and head of treasury, before assuming the CEO position in 2018.

He has over 30 years of experience with a background in finance and is known for tackling initiatives and galvanising the utility into a modern company with enhanced customer engagement.

Under Alvi’s leadership, KE has focused on making the company more efficient, future-ready, and responsive to the growing needs of Karachi’s population. Moreover, his vision aims to improve electricity supply, maintain and improve upon K-Electric infrastructure, and embrace new technology to advance our operational efficiencies.

K-Electric, which was privatised in 2005, has a diverse shareholding structure. A majority of its shares (66.4%) are held by KES Power, a group of international investors from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The government of Pakistan owns a 24.36% stake, while the rest is publicly traded.
