Building on the success of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, Meta’s Reality Labs is broadening its lineup of artificial intelligence (AI) smart glasses with a new Oakley-branded pair, specifically designed for athletes.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, these AI smart glasses, internally referred to as “Supernova 2,” will be based on Oakley's Sphaera design and feature a camera positioned at the centre of the frame.

Meta partners with Oakley for smart glasses

For the unversed, Oakley is an American company located in California that designs and manufactures sports performance equipment and lifestyle products, including sunglasses, safety glasses, and eyeglasses.

By partnering with Oakley, Meta aims to tap into the brand's popularity among professional athletes like cyclists, runners, and rowers.

Moreover, this strategic move could help popularise smart glasses among mainstream consumers. According to the tech giant, the new Oakley-branded smart glasses might be released later this year.

Alongside Oakley-branded glasses, Meta is exploring other AI-powered devices, including camera-equipped earbuds and a smartwatch.

The Facebook parent company is also developing a high-end pair of smart glasses, priced around $1,000, featuring an AR display projected onto the right lens. The smart glasses will be based on Ray-Ban Meta’s design.
