Altaf Hussain, a skilled craftsman from Multan, has successfully invented an eco-friendly solar-powered rickshaw. This innovative vehicle offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional electric rickshaws.

Hussain explained his concept, stating, “I thought, if electric rickshaws are running, why not use solar power to keep a rickshaw going for free?”

Hussain sourced the necessary components from China and Pakistan to bring his vision to life.

His motivation originated from the increasing electricity prices. Installing solar panels he aimed to create a more budget-friendly option.

Solar-powered rickshaw

Hussain’s solar-powered rickshaw boasts a 585-watt solar panel and two batteries, which allows it to run up to 60 kilometres on a full charge.

While the rickshaw can draw power directly from sunlight, it utilises the energy stored in the batteries on cloudy days.

The solar rickshaw offers numerous benefits, such as that it doesn’t emit smoke and also provides an enhanced passenger experience.

Hussain noted that he spent two months building the solar-powered rickshaw at approximately Rs400,000. He also mentioned that utilising higher-quality parts could increase the cost to five and a half to six lacs.

Moreover, Hussain's teacher commended his work, sparking interest among others seeking eco-friendly and cost-effective electric rickshaws.

Furthermore, he plans to promote solar-powered rickshaws, encouraging widespread adoption of this innovative, green solution.
