The Nintendo Switch, released in 2017, has become a favourite among gamers worldwide. Its unique hybrid design and innovative games have captured the hearts of many. As the Switch enters its final phase, rumours about its successor, the Nintendo Switch 2, have started circulating.

Nintendo Switch 2: Backwards compatibility confirmed?

In a recent leak, industry insider Nate the Hate claimed that the Nintendo Switch 2 was going to be backwards compatible. In other words, gamers can play games from the earlier generation console on this next-generation console.

This was indeed the case with a previous leak provided by one third-party manufacturer of peripherals for the Switch. The leak revealed that the Switch 2 would be backwards compatible both physically and digitally.

What to expect from Nintendo Switch 2

While Nintendo hasn't confirmed the features of the Switch 2, reportedly, an update on the console might come this month. It is expected that Switch 2 probably is in production already, with a release to come in March 2025.

Those developing games for the Switch, on the other hand, have been informed not to expect its release in the current fiscal year, more likely in April and May of 2025.

Most importantly, as the Switch enters its last stage, Nintendo has announced the arrival of new games this year, which include The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. With this news, it's a given that the players will keep enjoying their favourite console until the Switch 2 arrives.

The already-leaked backwards compatibility with rumoured dates has pulled back a large number of excited gamers. It is expected that the Switch 2 will be quite different from its predecessor, as Nintendo has not confirmed the details.
