Pakistan has introduced the "Pak ID" app to simplify the visa-on-arrival process for travellers from 120 eligible countries.
Developed by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the app allows users to apply for business and tourist visas and track their applications in real-time.
The new system expedites the visa approval process, reducing the wait time to just 24 hours for eligible applicants.
Pakistan's new ‘Pak ID’ app features
The ‘Pak ID' app comes with features like face recognition, document scanning, and photo upload options, enabling travellers to complete the visa process from their mobile phones without visiting any physical office.
The app is part of Pakistan’s efforts to digitise its visa system, which already grants e-visas to citizens from 192 countries.
Interestingly, international visitors can now receive notifications and status updates on their visas directly on their smartphones.
This initiative aims to enhance Pakistan’s tourism and business sector by making travel more convenient for foreigners. The app is available for free on Android and iOS, offering a user-friendly experience for applicants.
However, at the moment, it only supports applications for Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA), while other visa types can still be applied for through the Pakistan Online Visa System (POVS) website.
Additionally, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated a 24/7 passport office at NADRA’s Mega Centre in Karachi, enhancing public services. Meanwhile, Pakistan has granted visas to Indian journalists covering the ICC Champions Trophy, ensuring smooth media coverage of the event.
The ‘Pak ID’ app is expected to boost Pakistan’s global connectivity, attracting more tourists and business travellers while reducing visa processing delays.
