In what appears to be uncertainty taking over the incumbent government's widely-endorsed initiative, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has dropped the development of Pakistan’s largest IT Park in Islamabad, with the board members mulling over alternatives.
The IT park's establishment has come to a standstill owing to the non-issuance of the Expression of Interest (EOI) for the validation of financial bids, for which the CDA recently decided to invite third parties.
Citing sources, ProPakistani reported that the move has stopped the leasing of the grey structure and land allocated by the government for the IT park.
The biggest factor which seems to have cut off the Islamabad-based IT park's development is the absence of EOIs to back up the project even several months following the CDA's decision.
What further held up operations is said to be the lack of redressal from the authorities concerned. This extent of negligence has raised concerns about Islamabad’s technological and economic development, given the federal capital touting the IT park as a technologically innovative hub.
In a meeting of the CDA board, some officials proposed to replace the IT park with a nursing university, while others suggested that the land should be used for an educational institution.
