PlayStation is reportedly working on a new first-party game, code-named Gummy Bears, inspired by the popular Super Smash Bros. series.
The game, primarily a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA), will feature a percentage-based damage system instead of traditional health bars, similar to Smash Bros.
Gummy Bears has been in the works for at least three years and is now being developed by a new PlayStation studio.
Initially started by Bungie, the project has changed hands and is now in the works at a new subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment. This new studio, with around 40 employees, is focused on bringing Gummy Bears to life.

The game is designed to target a younger audience, a departure from Bungie’s usual demographic. Gummy Bears will feature three character classes typical for a MOBA game: Attack, Defence, and Support. It will also include multiple game modes and a cosy, vibrant, “lo-fi” aesthetic, which is a new direction for Bungie.
Gummy Bears’ unique health system means characters won’t have health bars. Instead, the damage they take will be shown as a percentage, determining how far they are knocked back when hit.
When the damage percentage gets high enough, characters can be knocked off the map, just like in Smash Bros. Additionally, the game has been in development since at least 2022 and is still likely years away from release.
However, the new PlayStation studio is working hard to bring this exciting project to fruition. With its innovative gameplay and unique aesthetic, Gummy Bears is set to be a standout title in the PlayStation lineup.
