While global trade tariffs seem to have discouraged techies from upgrading their gadgets, customs values on used computers, laptops and other accessories in Pakistan have been slashed significantly.

The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi issued a new ruling, Valuation Ruling No. 2000 of 2025, to revise customs values for old and used computers, laptops, printers, and their accessories from all countries of origin.

Citing an official notification from customs, ProPakistani reported that the previous valuation ruling was over a year old, and after a detailed review of imported data, market trends, and price differences, duties on the said items were revised by exercising sections 25 and 25a of the Customs Act 1969.

In a meeting, customs officials highlighted that prices of older models and generations of IT equipment witnessed a massive drop in the international market. Given that, the stakeholders requested a revision of customs values in line with these changes.

Subsequently, the customs duties for used computers, laptops, printers, and their accessories have now been revised in line with actual market prices.

The revised values will be applied when calculating duties and taxes on imports.
